The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR), a nonpartisan think tank that conducts advanced research on U.S.-Asia policy, is seeking a Paid, Full-time Congressional and Media Relations Intern for the period of July-December 2018.

 

The intern will be a part of NBR's outreach team and will 1) help deliver programming on critical Asia issues to U.S. policymakers and the media, 2) have the opportunity to contribute to publications for Congress, and 3) engage with the Asia policy community through NBR's network of experts.

 

The ideal candidate will be pursuing or have recently received a degree in a related field (e.g., Asia Studies, Government Affairs, Communications), have strong research and writing skills, be able to flexibly pivot from one subject to the next, and possess a can-do attitude and entrepreneurial spirit.

This is a paid, full-time (40 hours per week), temporary (3-6 month) internship. The internship provides transportation and sick leave benefits. Learn more about NBR here: www.nbr.org

Responsibilities:

  • Writing and Research: develop content and contribute to NBR partnerships, including the Senate India Caucus, U.S.-China Working Group, and Senate Chiefs of Staff Foreign Affairs Study Group
    • This may involve interviewing Asia-policy experts, writing and editing content, and developing NBR's congressional initiatives
  • Congressional Outreach Support: provide research, planning, and logistical support for meetings and briefings on Capitol Hill
  • Media Outreach: assist with media outreach, including drafting press releases, placing op-eds, taking photographs, and developing strategic media plans for flagship events such as NBR's Engaging Asia, Pacific Energy Summit, and the annual Strategic Asia book launch
  • Social Media: track news, draft social media posts, and help develop and implement strategies to increase NBR's visibility
  • Website Management: support updates to NBR's congressional and media webpages

Qualifications:

  • Current or recently graduated student holding a(n) BA/BS/MA/MS, working toward a relevant degree, e.g., Asia studies, international affairs, communications, government affairs, political science
  • 1 year of related experience desired
  • Demonstrated interest in U.S.-Asia relations, communications, and government affairs
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, research, and interpersonal skills are required
  • Experience using social media tools in a professional setting preferred
  • Motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills who pays attention to detail
  • Knowledge of web/graphic design is a plus
  • Editing experience is a plus
